Description

The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program provides a funding source for state and local governments for transportation projects and programs to meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act (CAA) and its amendments. CMAQ funds support state- and locally selected transportation projects that reduce mobile source emissions in both current and former areas designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to be in nonattainment or maintenance of the national ambient air quality standards for ozone, carbon monoxide, and/or particulate matter.

Eligible Projects

Bicycle and pedestrian facilities, electric vehicles and charging stations, diesel engine replacements and retrofits, transit improvements, shared micromobility projects including shared scooter systems, and more. Some eligible projects may qualify for a greater than 80% federal dollars funding based on project type, population, and roadway classification.

Eligible projects must be located in either a TA or CMAQ eligible area. (https://www.dot.ga.gov/InvestSmart/Documents/CFP/CFP_Map.jpg)
